Internews International® fights for the rights of journalists and the media through a
network of media lawyers. It enhances tolerance and understanding through its support of independent media
in emerging democracies, produces and distributes innovative television programming, and uses the
media to reduce conflict within and between countries. Internews International's programs are based
on the conviction that vigorous and diverse mass media form an essential cornerstone of a free and
open society.
Internews projects currently span the former Soviet Union,
Central Asia,
Eastern and Western Europe,
the Middle East,
Asia,
Africa,
Latin America,
and the
United States.
Established in 1996, in Paris, Internews International is currently made up of 11 Full Member Organizations
and 19 Affiliated Members, with offices in
34 countries. The member organizations have signed the Articles
of Association (available for download here) which state in part:
"The Association has the purpose of contributing
by all tangible or intangible means to the creation and development of a worldwide network of Members in
order to facilitate production, dissemination and circulation of, and access to, independent information."
